What makes a carousel "magical"? What elements combine to produce an emotive experience that stirs the child within us adults, and excites young children to go in circles for 3-5 minutes, often for several rounds?
If you've visited the Pier 62 Carousel, you know this tingling sensation I'm describing (especially if you've ridden on my personal favorite, the Unicorn). While the carousel opens on March 24th, the best time to take a spin on this beloved Hudson River Park attraction is in the summer. Fresh summer air, the cool breeze from the Hudson River, the thrill of choosing your favorite creature native to the Hudson Valley -- all combine to create one of the most magical moments of your day. And for some, it's the foundation of traditions.
Several families have, since their first celebration at the Pier 62 Carousel, continued to host their child's birthday over the years with us. As a member of the carousel crew, this opportunity to grow alongside families who love the carousel as much as we do, is perhaps the most magical thing about it. For others, it's the unforgettable spot where young couples in love have proposed; where older couples have ridden on the carousel together as part of their "date night" over the course of several years; where newfound visitors walking along the Pier become captivated by this single spinning work of art along the water.
How will you take the magic of the Pier 62 Carousel home with you?
